Bloom Day - January 15th - 2009

Bloom Day in January. Well, I do live in Central Texas, so I should be able to find something blooming....

Aha - The Abutilon hiding in the entryway is blooming and with a bonus Gulf fritillary butterfly:

Also in the entryway the Meyer Lemon has some fabulously perfumed blossoms. You can see the Christmas lights I leave turned on the tree while covering it with a frost cover to keep just a little heat on it when it gets really cold:

And searching the garden some more, I come across one lone salvia blossom:

And on the other side of the yard...well, would you look at that! The Texas Scarlet Quince is beginning to bloom:

And back in the sheltered south-east corner of the house we have Texas Betony:

And finally some Lavendar:

That's it folks! Happy January Garden Blogger's Bloom day!

I always think it is such a treat to photograph a butterfly on a bloom. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, that's a lovely abutilon, and the butterfly is quite a nice addition! Where did you get yours?

How do I not know about this pretty Abutilon that so many Austin gardeners seem to have? Is it fairly drought-tolerant?

Your lavender--yay! (Mine hasn't bloomed in ages.)

Your entryway sounds like a small conservatory, Lee17- and all our Meyer's Lemons are wearing mini-lights this year!

I'd confess to abutilon envy but the form of the flowers makes me hesitate ;-]

I definitely want to get some abutilon to keep as a house plant. And impressed that you have bloom outdoors, too

Thanks for joining in for bloom day!

Lori,

Thanks! I got my Abutilon at The Natural Gardener - they had a ton of them!

Iris,

The Abutilon likes average water and part-shade. It also prefers a more acidic type soil so mine is in a pot ;)

Annie,

It is sorta like a small conservatory! It stays so warm that it is like zone 10-11 in there! I have a friend who calls it 'The Terrarium' ;)
