Bloom day - July 15th - 2009

29 days of 100+ weather. 29. It's only July!! Summer isn't even half over! This is not Phoenix folks, it's Austin. Not just a measly 100 either - I am talking 104, 105, 106 or more. Plus a 2 year drought - not just any old drought, but the most exceptional, ground dried up, resevoir shrinking, tree cracking, farmer suffering, critters dying of thirst type drought. And today it is 104 and the wind is blowing hot and dry, sucking the moisture out of anything in it's path. And I am trying to grow a garden. Am I freaking insane?!? Clearly, I am. And it's bloom day.HAhahahha!! hehe.. ha..Sigh. Nice. Well, lets see if I can rustle up some bloomage....

Cuphea:

Mexican Petunia:

Four Nerve Daisy:

Blue Mistflower:

Yellow Primrose:

Purple Salvia greggi:

Tropical Milkweed (notice the butterfly that flew into the image while I was taking the photo on the left):

Butterfly bush:

Shrimp Plant:

Coral Nymph Salvia:

Turks cap:

Texas Bluebells:

Chocolate Flower:

Big red sage:

Tuberose:

Rock Rose:

Hibiscus:

That's all I've got. They say there is a 20 percent chance of rain starting on Saturday. I have my chicken feathers and turquoise at the ready, now if only I could remember the proper sequence of steps to perform a successful raindance...

I love that coral nymph salvia with the black sweet potato vine. Great combo!

You've got lots of pretty blooms! Those Texas Bluebells are new to me and quite showy--love that purple. Do they require a fair amount of water?

The Coral Nymph Salvia is just lovely.

I do not envy you gardening in those conditions! I can barely stand the heat and humidity in central NC, and we frequently get breaks from it.

Pam,

Thanks! It is a great combo. The salvia are pretty small this year though. I had to take a close up picture to make it look bigger than it really is.

Iris,

The texas bluebells do pretty well without too much water. Mine are planted next to the disappearing fountain and so get some water splashed on them when it is windy. I really don't water them much at all though.

Sweet Bay,

Yeah, it is pretty awful. My garden looks terrible. It is kind of embarrasing actually. Sigh.

You have so many gorgeous flowers! I'm impressed that you persuaded so many to stick around this far into summer.
