He's Baaackk....

Mr. Armadillo has come right back after being scared off last week. He is diggin' holes all up in my flower bed:

He doesn't seem to bother the flower beds with gravel mulch though. The gravel must be too rough on that soft nose of his.

The oxblood lilies are blooming:

A pink rain lily:

Flush of blossoms on the Texas Sage:

The blossoms are awfully thick:

Our resident Female black-chinned hummingbird preening:

And resting:

That Texas Sage is gorgeous! I hope your visitor isn't too destructive.

Just look on the armadillo visit as a bonus. he's eating up your white grubs-I hope- not your earthworms.

Great photos! Neither my Texas Sage nor my Oxbloods are blooming right now, pooh. (Maybe you need to do some little anti-pest ritual for good luck?) Cheers!

i like the water on the cantaloupe. very pretty.

I'd take an armadillo over a possum.

My oxbloods are blooming but the Texas sage never looks like that in my garden Lee!
Sorry about the return of the Armadillo - the decomposed granite seems to slow down the squirrels a little, too.
You caught the hummingbird resting! Cool!

Your photos of the armadillo damage are making me rethink my dog's culpability. My bed looks a lot like yours. Have you seen the 'dillo? What time does he usually come around?

I love the writer spider...I didn't have one visit my garden this year!

I haven't seen any armadillos (in my yard) but I'm about to wring the neck of a few squirrels! LOVE your pics!

Lovely photos! Oh, me if it isn't one thing, it's another. Sorry about your persistent visitor. I have no idea what to do about those.

nancybond,

He isn't too destructive - and I like that he eats the grubs!!

Lancashire rose,

I am looking at him as a bonus - he can have all the grubs he wants and a few earthworms too, as long as he doesn't dig full-on burrows in my yard!

Iris,

Thanks! I don't mind the armadillo as long as he doesn't do any major damage.

katina,

Thanks! Yeah, at least the armadillo eats lots of grubs!

Annie,

Thanks! The armadillo isn't that big of a pest - most of my flower beds are gravel-mulched in the front and he hasn't made it into the back yard yet!

Vertie,

Yeah, I caught the dillo digging away really early in the morning - just before sun-up. He must have found something really yummy to stick around long enough for the sun to start coming up.

consciousgardner,

I definately have less of those spiders this year! I think it has been too dry. Last year they were all over the yard. This year, only a couple.

texas mom,

Thanks! I wish I had some squirrels - I live in one of those new neighborhoods where they scraped off all the trees. No big trees = no squirrels. I don't miss how they dig up my bulbs or nibble the tops off them though!!

Lee17 said...

barbee,

I'm not gonna worry too much about the dillo unless he decides to start digging burrows in my yard! He only is looking for bugs as far as I can tell.

Please lie down with a cold cloth on your head Lee 17. Now repeat until you're lucid again, 'I do not wish I had squirrels...I do not wish I had squirrels....I do not wish I had squirrels"

annie,

Hahahha! I think I may be crazy! Squirrels remind me of when I was a kid - we had lots of them in our backyard and we would feed them peanuts. We had grey squirrels, red squirrels, and even a set of flying squirrels for a couple of years. Those flying squirrels were the niftiest critters ever! They would glide between the great big douglas firs and hit the trunks of the trees with a big 'Splat'!

The grey squirrels were always eating my mom's bulbs (she had to put wire mesh over the pots), eating the strawberries, and digging all the good stuff out of the bird feeders.

The red squirrels didn't seem to bother the garden too much.

I guess the want of squirrels is really all about nostalgia! I shall repeat to myself - I do not want squirrels, I do not want squirrels, I do not want squirrels... ;)

One of my cousins and her family lived in a rural wooded area and her 4 children had a flying squirrel they caught and brought indoors to keep for a pet. Turns out they are nocturnal (the squirrels, not the kids), and she got tired of every morning finding the potting soil dug out of all her house plants. I guess it knew how to get under her skin for she made them let it go free.
