I picked the first cantaloupe from the garden the other day. It is big and super-tasty, hopefully there will be more to come. My garden is not doing very well at all this year. Plants just are not growing without any rain. The city water just keeps the plants alive and that is about it. And what few tomatoes I do get, are quickly snatched by the possums. All except the yellow pear tomatoes though. Those are amazingly tolerant of the heat and are producing many tomatoes for me, so even though the mockingbirds grab their fair share, I still have lots of yellow pear tomatoes for my salads. So at least there's that.
What a lovely melon! What variety is it? My Earligold is about a half inch in diameter. I planted them in the spring. So much for the Earli part of the name!
ReplyDeleteCaroline,
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's an heirloom variety named 'Northern Arizona' Cantaloupe. It is really sweet and tasty. Yum!
I will have to try that variety. It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI bow to you, oh Queen of The Melon. That is beauty. The cantaloupes vines are looking very good in my garden but I have no melons to brag about. I also have no eggplant to brag about, no heirloom tomatoes to brag about, no peppers to brag about. Tis a dry, dry season. All I'm good for is worms. My worms rock.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hate anonymous comments. I accidentally hit the enter key and Voila! Are you going to plant a fall garden?
